The Sun and Pluto represent the life force and don't
correspond to trigrams.
Qian is the law, it
directs all movement in universe, it sets the time and range of the planet's
orbits, it causes day and night, summer and winter. It is the blueprint of
Creation.
Its animal is the dragon, whose size is illimitable. It lives in the galaxies
and makes the huge clockworks turn around. It enters the eggs of the turtle and
makes the newborn baby-turtles all hatch together and dash for the sea. It lives
in the center of the sun and the depth of the ocean.
The clouds follow the dragon and make the seasons dry or rainy, warm or cold,
all according to their time and place on earth. In the fields of earth the
dragon's voice can be heard as thunder. In spring it tells all that the growing
season will start, in autumn it clears the sky for the winter time.

is
Dao, the field of action for the laws of heaven. Without this field the laws
cannot come to realization. Earth gives every creature its unique form, it
channels the universal influences of heaven into the myriad manifestations.
Its animal is the mare, the symbol of tireless movement and
strength. Not selfwilled like a stallion, but following the demands of nature. The ancient farmers saw the
mare as representing the powers of earth. A horse is wild but can be tamed and
serve man. It combines energy, obedience and fertility.

It is the light which
makes everything visible, the form of things so they can manifest themselves. It
connects all things and separates all things. In the mind it is consciousness,
thinking and seeing, understanding. It acts in a bird, the bright bird of
insight, but one has to catch it. If one does not, it will fly away. Maybe it
will return at night, in dreams, and one can try again to catch it and take it
back to the day.
Night and day complement and help each other. Night brings the shifting shimmer
of wisdom, day the sudden shock of insight, like a flash of lightning. Do not
underestimate the destroying power of fire as intellect, though.
Li is the eye, looking and trying to see, the sense of daylight and of forms and
colors.

It
is the dark which erases all borders and hides all things. The ocean, which is
the source of all life, but can also destroy it. The primordeal womb of the
world. Primeval chaos.
It is also the rain, mist and snow, the river, the wild waters running through
a gorge, but also the dangerous still water of deep pits.
In the mind it is the realm of feelings, sadness and remembering, loneliness.
It is hard labor, midnight, midwinter, and the unconscious. But also inner
wisdom, inner truth. Dreams and the moon, reflecting the day-light of
consciousness. The shadows of the night make all things lose their separating
forms, and bring an understanding which is wider than the one of the day.
Kan gives the ability to conceive of paradox, without that no wisdom, no
dreaming, no creativity is possible.
Kan is listening, trying to hear, which is the sense of the dark and of
vibrations.
Water and the moon are the elements that give life its ebb and flow. They are
the symbols of the cycle of life, without water no life is possible.
'In all cultures water has the symbolic meanings of source of life, vehicle of
cleansing, and center of regeneration. It is undifferentiated, so it stands for
the infinite nature of the possible, containing all that is potential, unshaped,
the seed of seeds and all promises of evolution, as well as all threats of
re-absorption. To immerse oneself in the waters and to re-emerge without having
been utterly dissolved in them, except by dying a symbolic death, is to return
to the well-springs and regain fresh strength from that vast reservoir of the
potential. It is a passing phase of regression and disintegration which brings
with it a progressive phase of reintegration and regeneration'.

Like thunder is the
voice of heaven, wind is the voice of earth.
Wind is the 'image' in a chicken egg which makes it grow into a chicken or a
hawk's egg to grow into a hawk. The chicken-seal, the hawk-seal. It is heredity,
predestination, evolution. The magnetic field, the charge, and the vibrations of
the earth and all matter.
The seals are aroused by Thunder, the wake-up call.
C: "There is something else about Sun, one can feel her, not just see her
effects. Sometimes she sooths skin from the heat. Sometimes she penetrates clear
to the bone with chill. Sometimes she destroys a town, and she has sunk ships.
One can also hear her voice whistling through the branches. No-one and nothing
else can do this. Her energy is transmutable, like in a windmill or a ship's
sail. She wears away mountains only because the mountain is unmoved by her
power; stubborn lad that he is. But he's not unaffected, even in his stillness.
Xun's power will not be denied, only rerouted".
TOP
is creation and
destruction. It is the manifestation on earth of the laws of heaven, the eldest
son. In spring it awakens the seeds and makes them germinate. It disturbs the
logical sequence of happenings by acting out heaven's laws. Life has no logic,
it has cycles, it grows and declines, it appears suddenly and disappears
mysteriously, answering to an invisible law.

gives a foundation
and borders to life and lake fills it in with living joy and exchange. Every
creature needs both to make his life substantial and yet liquid, strong and yet
full of movement.
Mountain is the inner core, the stillness of the heart, the essential being.
In nature is is the seed, which has no motion but contains the whole being
before its coming into form. It is also the fruit, which contains the condensed
nature of the plant. Also without form or motion, but it is the complete essence
of its being.
In this inner root one can find the forces of regeneration, it is both the end
and the new beginning. Here one experiences eternity.
Mountain is also the inaccessible inner defense against the world. It can be a
protection, but just as well a prison of stone for oneself.
TOP
is the innocent openness
of children and their ability to play and act and learn all at the same time,
without making any difference among them. Mountain is being, it is tough like a
shield. Lake is living, it is fluid interaction. Lake makes the mind clear and
open, and the limbs supple and agile.
Quietness is the mother of movement. When the mind is quiet and clear like a
lake on a calm day, one can reflect the light, one can look into the waters of
the soul, and see its creatures.
When there is movement around, one answers to the winds and rains, supple and
without any restriction, open and genuine.
The other side of its meaning is the irrevocability of words and actions. One
can not make a spoken word undone, it is as if a higher power has it in its
possession now. It can be a very serious danger to let the bird fly at the wrong
moment.
