The trigrams: HEAVEN EARTH FIRE WATER WIND THUNDER MOUNTAIN LAKE

8 Trigrams

On my wanderings I met this woman, who did not know herself. But wanted to know, needed to know. This is what I said to her..

8 moving parts, is all. 8 trigrams.
3 men and 3 women, plus the woman and the man, make up all we are.
3 daughters and sons, plus the mother and father.

It can be awkward for a woman to express her men, and a man to express his women. So they are expressed in small actions, but not as easily in words. Expressed indirectly, seldom directly. For example, when he offers a rose for her, he is Tui and Li. When he listens carefully to a difficulty she is going through, that is Sun. When she calms him down, that is her Ken. When she interprets a reading, she is Chen.

for you is Sun, Li, and Tui.
Tui is the focus
and Tui is what you find first
Sun is who helps, the intermediary
so called higher self and winged messenger
Sun can follow, and lead without form or purpose;
she must be won!

Kan, as suitor, bringing gifts to her to have the company of the youngest.
the eldest sister teaching the younger one who she is
and bringing the message of the suitor to her.
Sun is Tui’s watchful eye - protective of her,
as it should be.

if Kan courts her, all the more so.
Chen does not negotiate
and Kan lacks the stability of the youngest son,
who, while rather boring, at least holds a steady job.

Kan knows the language to bring Tui out of hiding
Kan is clever, and driven
and he is dangerous,
the bad boy in the dark,
the master in the alley.
aw, even Sun can't resist a clever man.

Tui is in touch with more earth than the others
how then can she be called inferior?
one cannot be lake if unsupported by the whole earth
she is the lower without being any lesser..
lower greatness,
and earth wisdom.

find now the sons in you,
even as I have found the daughters in me!
because you are woman, you can only see their reflection
as though a shadow or in a mirror.

just as my yin in a dream,
she avails to play.
my yin who prays
and my Sun is exalted;
my highest woman.

my form, beauty and vanity is Li
good vanity, showing off.
Tui is my friend and ally;
in touch with earth.

so while you can not see or experience the sons as in you entirely,
you can understand their influence.

fire clings to wood
and air breathes life upon fire,
so you cling to below, and flame upward toward the heavens.
being an air sign, your Sun is strong,
so feed the flames!

the lake is joy, melancholy; all feelings.
fire is the radiance from earth.
wind is universal influence, which is why she is the eldest.
when these women are in their fitting place, there comes order.
same with the three sons, who also live within woman.
eldest is thunder, first son of heaven,
then water, who knows no fear.
youngest is mountain, who remains steadfast and reliable.
these six live in us on earth.

heaven is reserved only for the father,
just as the mother earth bears all things.
when the family is together, the family is in order;
then is a persona balanced.

balance is so hard to find
that's why I'm telling you how it works.
see a person who has all these persons, but one.
let's say lake; the lowest in the hierarchy and youngest daughter.
after all she is lowly. surely we can do without her.
and so this person has no joy or sorrow.

let's take someone with no fire or passion,
or someone with no air or wind: now also with no spirit.
or someone with no mountain: no stability
or no water: no individuality.
or no thunder: powerless.

see how they fit together to make a whole?

by knowing those parts of you, and their character and traits,
you can know better how to organize.

Now, there was another woman, and to her I said:

"your lake is alive and well, as is your spirit.
your fire is almost very bright, but is drawn down into the lake,
so it doesn’t yet burn as it should.
your sons are thus:
your mountain needs understanding.
your water flows and is unafraid, except yet from certain demons.
your thunder seems to be doing just fine.

it is the mountain which must increase,
and the lake which must decrease.
then you find your balance, and everything else has more power.

the only two that live between heaven and earth are the eldest: wind and thunder.
all others cling to earth; to this life here and now.
energy must return into the earth for us to belong here.
your energy is upward,
your dog or cat notwithstanding: they keep you present here.
and that's also why I said your ally must be earth bound, not heaven sent.
our soul doesn't come down from heaven.
it grows upward from the ground
and, we must return that energy to the ground."

Honoring the father and mother, knowing our sons and daughters. Is this not our path, coyote?
