Hexagram 61 ZHŌNG FÚ Inner sincerity
Inner sincerity |
![]() ![]()
Wind |
day 29 of a yin moon |
Do not believe what a man
says he is, or thinks he is. But when he is in real danger, then one can
see his real nature. Truth does only show when all human things are
gone, on the edge of life.

ZHONG
FU: The first character, zhong, is a flag in the middle of a target or
something similar: central, middle, halfway. There is a very different
other possibility though. In her book "China, empire of living symbols",
Cecilia Lindqvist has pictures of drums with a pole through the middle
(pages 319-310), at the top with ornaments and at the bottom four feet
to keep it upright. On page 324 the character zhong - a picture of a
hand drum. It was used if festivities or by tradesmen, but especially in
battles. Everyone focused on the sound and movements of the drum in
their center, which told them to advance or retreat. It became the
symbol for the state, the "middle kingdom".

Finding one's equal enemy. Some drum, some freeze, some weep,
some sing. When circumstances are dangerous, one can see people’s truth. Keep your eyes open, next time you will know beforehand what you can expect of everyone. These are the real lessons about mankind, not only about others, but above all about yourself. (Changes to hex.9) |

Without
fault. The individual and society will never agree completely. In order to stay oneself, one will have to make sacrifices. Set your preferences, you cannot have it all, so decide what is important and what is not. Wanting all that society offers means one loses a lot Self. (Changes to hex.10) |

For the meaning of Eminent
- expansion. Harvest - determination click HERE In the story ('Do not believe etc..) I name the man, but for woman and often even children the same is true of course. Line 1. The character "white tiger" also means 'guide' or 'precaution', like in hex.3 line 3. It is the 'magic' which an indian guide has: being one with the forest. Line 2. In Chinese thought, the young of the crane is absolutely obedient to its parent. |
