To be what you really are,
to live the life that belongs to you. That is what everybody wants, but

everybody counteracts.

First low, then high. That's how things grow healthy and natural. This way the sun creates night and day. (Changes to hex.22) |

- expansion. Harvest - determination click HERE Line 3. 'Determination about affliction' or a hurried determination. The character ji² can be 'disease' or 'fast'. Emotions are felt in the belly. At the right side the outwards directed ones, they are connected with the liver. When a psychiatric patient complains about bellyache and points to the right side, there is danger he will become aggressive. But if he points to the left side, the side of the spleen, his emotions will attack himself, his own mind. Many people have experienced it as falling madly in love, which is a mild version. It can develop into insanity, due to predisposition or circumstances. Most cases of falling too deep in love, depression, nostalgia or desperation do not go off the rails, but all the same they are extremely difficult for the person involved. The lines of this hexagram give clues for avoiding, diminishing or curing this. Of course this hexagram covers more situations than only depression. It speaks of one’s attitude towards the world. One has to look after one’s well-being oneself. One cannot expect others to be nice and often it is better to be prepared for opposition or aggression. Innumerable are the sweet people who have been robbed because they expected others to be sweet too. |
