Hexagram 48

Jĭng, The well

Jĭng
trigram Water
Trigram Wind

Gua Poem:
Changing the city, not changing the well. Not dying away, not increasing. They go, they come, always getting water. Almost reaching the water and not yet actually hauling up water, or breaking one's pitcher - pitfall.

The great image says: Above wood there is water, a well. The noble one encourages the toiling people to stand by each other.

Jĭng: the ideogram and the story (NEW). What does it mean for your question?
This hexagram is complementary to hex.21.

Top line: The well is gathering. Do not cover it. Having truth. Great auspiciousness.
Accept inspiration when and how it comes, from yourself or others. Do not expect, prepare, analyze or postpone - just get your bucket and draw from the well. Inspiration and happiness are blessings.

Line 5: The well is a clear cold spring. Drink.
Do not try to find inspiration, it cannot be summoned. Just make your mind and heart and soul clear, and it will well up in plenty. Be like the well itself, its inside is empty, open to receive the lavishing waters.
(Changes to hex.46)  Mirror

Line 4: The well is masonry lined. No fault.
You did everything you needed to do, but this is not yet the end. Now comes the reality of using what you prepareded. Trust yourself, you can do it! It doesn't matter if it is something tangible or your inner selfconfidence or whatever else. It is strong now.
(Changes to hex.28)  Mirror

Line 3: The well is dredged, no one drinks. It makes my heart ache. One might draw from it. The king is bright, together we receive its blessing.
Very often many possibilites are ready, they just need someone to recognize them. Once that happens it seems so easy. Why did nobody see? Because our habits are one-way streets, we don't dare to drive the other way or look around corners.
(Changes to hex.29)  Mirror

Line 2: The well is a gully, they shoot bass. The jug is worn out and leaking.
Even the best well can only stay clear if one looks after it. Even a rich mind or a splendid thought has to be developed and kept alive. But if you cannot drink the water, and there is no good jug, then enjoy the fish you can catch, even though it is a shameful loss of your potential.
(Changes to hex.39)  Mirror

Bottom line: The well is muddy, no drinking. Ancient well, no birds.
Birds don't drink stale water, people don't listen to stale knowledge. Not the knowledge revealed decides about the value of wisdom, but the life it contains and passes on.
(Changes to hex.5)  Mirror
