Hexagram 45

Cuì, Gathering

Gua Poem:
Assemble, expansion. The king serves the temple. Fruitful to see a great man. Expansion. Fruitful to divine. Use big sacrificial bulls, auspicious. Fruitful to proceed probing.

The great image says: A marsh on the earth, gathering. The noble one keeps weaponry in good repair and is alert for danger.

Cuì: the ideogram and the story (NEW). What does it mean for your question?
This hexagram is complementary to hex.26.

Top 6: Moans and sighs, tears and sobbing. Without fault.
Groups are not always easy to deal with for the individual. It can be a small group of peers, it can be humanity, or anything in between. Just ask a victim of burnout, or the loner who cannot fit in. You need to repair your soul now and then, or you will succumb. But when you do fit in, you still have to make yourself be seen or heard, and complaining can be a way to do that.

9 at 5: Gathering has ranks. Without fault. Not inspiring trust. Great ever-flowing divination. Regrets go away.
In big gatherings it is important to have everything organized. It is the base of international companies or the army. But roles exclude truth and inspiration, so just do what you have to do.

9 at 4: Great auspiciousness. Without fault.
Gather around you - or join - what really belongs with you, and yet leave all in its/their own value. It makes realizing of ideals possible. One can put one’s ideas to the trial, help each other in materializing abstract thoughts and develop an idea along many different paths.
(Changes to hex.8)   Mirror

6 at 3: Then gathering, then moaning. No ground for fruitfulness. To proceed is without fault. Small distress.
For a coherent whole one needs consistent perseverance. Do not find out if it works - make it work. Feelings will always be changeable, one cannot demand perfection and constancy. Just hold on to it.

6 at 2: Being led is auspicious. Without fault. If there is truth, then it is fruitful to use a Yue-sacrifice.
Make use of the opportunity to become a member of a group. With others or in yourself. Don’t let it go by, it is not easy to make it happen. But the real thing starts when you trust them - or yourself. Don't ask (or try to give) perfection.
(Changes to hex.47)  Mirror

Initial 6: Being true not to the end. Then chaos, then gathering. Like when crying, one handful restores laughing. Do not worry. To proceed is without fault.
No one is always true, but if one reaches out to each other, harmony can always be restored again. Contact is much more important than being perfect. Unity is a question of staying in touch, interested in each others mental whereabouts or, in an enterprise, keeping sight of the overall picture.
(Changes to hex.17)  Mirror

No lines changing: you can try to do things, but they may fail or even backfire. If there's nothing that should (or can) be done, then this might be a good time to relax and refuel. The Poem and the Image are guides that show you the best way to do that.

The Trigrams offer possibilities that the hexagram-texts don't show.
